Bootcamp haircut

In keeping with the "this is war" motto, I now have my bootcamp haircut. Too many handfuls were coming out every morning. Ugh! Yesterday afternoon Mel and Shareen poured me a G&T and I screwed up my courage. Mel fired up the clippers and soon almost all of my hair was on the floor. Gulp. Shareen kindly washed my newly shorn head and said really nice things. What wonderful friends. We gathered up the drop cloth with my hair and went out on the prairie and tossed it into the wind. Today there are birds and rabbits adding it to their nests!

Sheila took me shopping and she bought me two new scarves-lime green and hot pink! Carrie will be here this weekend so she can show me how to tie the scarves...since her mother is a bit of a spaz with that sort of thing!

This morning I have on a great beret and a button that says, "I'm too sexy for my hair!"

In-between-weeks

I successfully made it through round one and the days that followed. Some side effects, but all do-able. My next chemo treatment is on Feb. 2nd. That same day I will meet with my oncologist, Dr. Anna Kanard. Following that appointment I will update the blog with more information about my specific cancer.
A few resources that may be of interest to you-they were to me.

I just read Lance Armstrong's book, It's not about the bike: My journey back to life. Rick and Kathey (cousins in TX) sent it to me. I found it a good read, somtimes very scary as I approach more treatment and wonder about my own strength to conquer. The other book I am reading I got from Sheila. It is called, There's no place like hope: A guide to beating cancer in mind-sized bites. Wonderful.

Just want you all to know that I am feeling good and taking advantage of the 60 degree weather that we are having!
My motto this week: "curl 'em while you got 'em!"

Bombs away!

Chemical warfare began on January 12th. It took 7 hours-a long time to sit in that chair!
The folks at the Cancer Center of the Rockies are amazing and they made me feel I was in capable and caring hands.
Their website is http://www.cancerhealth.com/

My protocol is Taxol and Carboplatin. I will have treatment every 3 weeks for 6 treatments.

I was happy to have Cathy around for the days following my first treatment-all new territory. But, do-able and I am at work today.

Des has set this blog up-a place where you can check for updates. I am sorry that we did not have it during the surgery and diagnosis. I am sure it would have made everybody feel better to know what the heck was going on. It was a blow, as I am sure we all thought it was a fungus. But, this is war. And we are going to kick it in the butt!

Thanks for all your calls, hugs, cards, flowers, food, treats and treasures. You mean the world to me and I could not do this without you.
