latest results

Met with Dr. Kanard on Tuesday. She gave me the results of the CT scan. Stable, no growth, and that is good! I am tolerating the Alimta so well, and since it is keeping the little suckers at bay, I am continuing on. Chemo today. It is still every 21 days. Onward and upward!

My cousin and his family were visiting over the weekend. They were surprised to see that I have my own hair. I think we all assume that with chemo there is baldness! Not this round-very happy to have eyebrows and eyelashes.

Think Hope and Happy Spring!!

Did ya miss me?!

I was off playing and working in Massachusettes. I spent some time with friends in Fitchburg and got to go wander the beach--cold but beautiful! Ate "beach pizza" and a "lobsta" roll. My workshop and conference were in Boston. Amy Shelley and I wandered all over before the Public Library Assoc. conference began on Wednesday. Saw the "Make Way for Ducklings" statue and toured Trinity Church (beautiful stained glass and murals--http://www.trinityboston.org/arc.asp). Wandered around a swanky shop area, looked at brownstones. Very cool! Oh yeah, the meetings were good too!

Shareen is planning this years Yoga-thon. It will be on April 23rd, 12:30-3:30. Once again, it will be the 108 sun salutations. She leads us through a variety of them. You do not have to do all 108! The money goes toward the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Please let me know if you would like to support the event and our Wyoming Library Community Relay for Life team. Also, contact me if you would like more information about the yoga-thon. Come join us!

Had a CT scan today and will see Dr. Kanard for the results tomorrow. I am scheduled for chemo on Thursday.

Happy Spring!

getting the word out

Good morning! Snowing here in Cheyenne-big cotton candy flakes.
I have had a very low energy week. Some nights I have been in bed by 8:15!

With the devastating news of Dana Reeves' death and the news stories that followed, lung cancer is getting a bit of press. It is sad that it takes something like this to get folks to listen. But, there is such a need for funding and awareness.... I am asking you to go to
http://www.lungcanceralliance.org/psa.html and print out a flier or two to post. Funding is a huge issue and with education maybe we can change how we view lung cancer and keep funding from getting cut. Dr. Derek Raghaven, Director, Cleveland Clinic's Cancer Center was quoted on Larry King Live (after Dana Reeves death) saying, "There are new treatments here right now. You know, my frustration, as someone who directs a major program at the Cleveland Clinic, is that there are so many pieces of information that are just outside our reach. We've had brilliant scientists who've worked out so many details of the human genome. And this was a result of money being put into cancer research and general medical research over the last couple of decades. Just at the point where we could capitalize on this, our Congress has voted to reduce the amount of money available, and so it's a very frustrating thing."

I know that I have put these numbers in the blog before, but I feel they are worth stating again: Compare the number of deaths to the amount of funding, and the picture is stark--nearly $14,000 for each breast cancer death, more than $11,000 for every prostate cancer death, and just $1,700 per lung cancer death.

Thanks for all your support and care.

Good morning!

What a beautiful weekend!
I had chemo on Thursday, number 14, and then got up Friday at 4 am to leave for Colorado Springs. Shareen, Mary Parsons and I went to get our instructor re-certifications. Shareen and I went to Yoga II all day. I learned some new things and took good energy away with me. I learned some new chants and meditations that will be nice to incorporate into my home practice. We drove back that night. LOOOOOOOOOONG day! Needless to say, I did not get much done on Saturday and Sunday. I felt like the cat-kept moving to the sunbeams!

Enjoy these "sneak peek to spring" days!
Hugs,
chris
